Tacoma has a wealth of old historic homes – and I’m a strong believer in the benefits of owning one. Be it a Craftsman bungalow, a Tudor Revival or a stately Victorian, historic homes offer an important link to our past.

The Benefits of Owning
a Historic Home

Tacoma is known for its established neighborhoods and old historic home stock. A lot of people are drawn to the charm and character of those older homes, but they may not fully appreciate all of the benefits of owning a historic property.

Historic homes are often located in desirable neighborhoods like Proctor or the Stadium District, and they can be a major asset for their owners. In fact, many historic homes are actually worth more than modern homes of similar size and location because of their historic significance. By preserving the original character and architectural details of a historic home, owners can ensure that it retains its value over time.

Another reason to maintain a historic home is to preserve its cultural significance. Historic homes offer a window into the past, showcasing architectural styles and materials of old. By preserving these homes, we can ensure that future generations will be able to appreciate and learn from the past. In addition, historic homes often have unique stories and connections to the community, making them an important part of our local history. Whenever possible, we try to highlight these unique stories when marketing our historic listings for sale.

Finally, maintaining a historic home can also be a matter of personal pride and satisfaction. As I’ve learned over the years, restoring a historic home can be a labor of love, allowing us to put our own personal stamp on a property while still honoring its historic significance.

Maintaining a historic home is an important practice that can provide both financial and cultural benefits. By preserving the original character of these homes, owners can ensure that they remain valuable assets and important parts of our local heritage. If you’re lucky enough to own a historic home, please take the time to care for its unique character. As always, don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s anything I can do to assist.
